FraserStudios has issued a final call for artists wanting to make creative use of studios established in three warehouses in Kensington Street, Chippendale.
With strong encouragement from the City, Frasers Property made the warehouses available for artists studios in 2008 while they were awaiting incorporation into the company's Central Park redevelopment, planned for 2012.
The Chippendale-based Queen Street Studio has managed the spaces, offering temporary residencies to visual and performances artists. The project has given priority to inner city visual artists whose practice has been disrupted by development in the local community.
Four three month residencies for eight to ten visual artists or groups per residency are being offered in 2011. Two six month residencies are also being offered to emerging artists. Submissions for the third residency program from 20 May 2011 to 15 August and fourth residency program from 19 August to 14 November are now open and will close on 25 March.
The City is encouraging other developments to emulate Frasers by allowing temporary creative or community uses for properties awaiting development.
